Adams Beverages, Inc., is a closely held Sub-Chapter S Corporation. It currently has the franchise to sell and distribute Anheuser-Busch, Inc. products in the counties of Barbour, Dale, Henry, Houston, Lee, Macon, Russell, and Tallapoosa; the City of Enterprise; and Ft. Rucker Army Base in the State of Alabama.
The company began with the repeal of Prohibition in 1937 as "Bush Distributing Company" under the management of C.C. Bush. In 1950, Joe Adams joined the company. At this time the company had 3 employees. Joe Adams performed multiple tasks from unloading freight to selling and delivering product. In 1973, the name was changed to Adams Beverages, Inc. and the company was incorporated.
In 1972, Joe's son Bill joined the company. In 1973, Bill moved into the sales department as a route salesman and later as a Sales Manager. In 1979, Adams Beverages moved into its new facility at 234 N. Range St. The Facility featured 3,000 square feet of office space, 5,000 square feet of ambient space, and 7,500 square feet of climate controlled warehouse space. In 1980, Bill Adams was elected President of Adams Beverages and was approved as Equity Agreement manager by Anheuser-Busch. In 1996, Bill's son Clay joined the company. In 1997 Clay moved into the Sales Department as a route sales rep. In 1998, he became Sales Manager and in 1999 was approved by Anheuser-Busch as Sucessor Manager. In 1999, Adams Beverages moved into its new facility at 3116 John D. Odom Rd. in Dothan, AL. This facility features 42,000 square feet of total space with 7,000 square feet of office space, 12,000 square feet of driv-thru for truck loading, 8,000 square feet of ambient area, and 15,000 square feet of climate controlled warehouse space. At this time Adams Beverages employed 33 people and distributed over 1,000,000 cases of Anheuser-Busch product. In April of 2000, Bill's son-in-law Philip Mullin joined Adams Beverages as a delivery rep. As Joe, Bill, and Clay did, Philip worked through the company as a Sales Rep, and a Sales Supervisor. In June of 2002, Philip was made General Sales Manager of the Dothan Operation.
In June of 2001, Adams Beverages purchased Eagle Budweiser Distributing Company in Opelika, AL. Eagle Bud employed 45 people and sold over 1,750,000 cases of Anheuser-Busch product. The acquisition gave Adams Beverages the exclusive right to distribute Anheuser-Busch product in the counties of Barbour, Lee, Macon, Russell, and Tallapoosa counties. With the acquisition, Bill Adams relocated to Opelika to facilitate the acquisition process. In January 2002, Bill Adams promoted Steve Wamick to General Sales Manager of the Opelika operation. Steve had been employed with Eagle Budweiser for over 18 years beginning as a route sales representative.
In 2002 Adams Beverages will sell over 3,000,000 cases of Anheuser-Busch products in 9 Alabama counties. It employees over 75 people and operates 2 facilities, Dothan and Opelika. Bill Adams currently serves as President and Equity Agreement Manager for both operations. Clay Adams serves as Vice-President and Successor Manager for both operations. Philip Mullin and Steve Wamick serve as General Sales Managers for Dothan and Opelika respectively.
