Some things appear on every "Edit Page" page. There is
usually a default value for them already picked for you so you don't
have to worry about them, but if you want to make some changes,
here's how.
Categories: There are currently six
categories for pages on your web site. We have tried to give you
meaningful categories, so that all of your pages could fit logically
somewhere.
To change the category a page link appears under, click on the
down triangle next to the category box like the one below. Choose
the category you think is best for the page you are working on.
When you publish the page, look for it under the selected category.
Work in Progress is a special category. No one can see anything
in the Work in Progress category unless they have logged in using
a Username and Password that allows them to edit your site. Use
it to try out things, or to prepare pages for review before they
go live.
As soon as you change the category from Work in Progress to one
of the other categories, it will be live on your site.
How to Enter a Number to Specify Page
Order Within Category
You can change the order of the pages in each category by specifying
a number. It's a little tricky, however. Read on.
Question: When I put my pages or my events in order,
they sometimes come out in the wrong order? Why?
Answer: The computer reads the numbers in the
page order field as if they were letters, that is, if you had more
than ten numbers, 1 would be followed by 10 instead of 2. To use
single numbers, add a leading zero: 01, 02, 03 etc.
For ordering pages within categories on the Left Side Navigation,
we recommend that you number the pages 10, 20, 30, 40 etc. That
way, if you want to reorder them later or add a new page, you can
insert pages in between: 12, 27, 43 etc.
To number the events on your Events page, we recommend using a
six number yymmdd format. For example:
The Page Title appears at the head of your page, right below
your logo or company name, just before any content.
The Link Text appears in the Left-side Table of Contents
and should should be quite short. Try very hard to keep it from
splitting into two lines.
It is best to use the same words for your Link Text and your Title
so you don't confuse your visitors, but you could elaborate the
Title a bit. For example, your Link Text could be: "Parties
in April" and your Title could be "Parties in April -
Springfield Celebrates."
