Add an Events Page

One of the ways you can add value to your web site is to list local events where you will be doing some sort of promotion. Adding small photographs to this page will bring people to it - just to see themselves on the web! Be very sure to keep an eye on this one - it can get out of date faster than you can say "A month has gone by ALREADY?"

Step One: Add the Events Page

Be sure you have logged in to your web site and have your red buttons showing. (See the Log In page if you need help.)

To add an Events page, first click on the red button marked "Add a page."

On "Add a Page", you will see various pages and page types that you can add to your web site.

Find "Events Page" (5th from the top). Click on the green "Add" button next to "Events Page." The Events "Edit Page" will appear.

There are some things you can change on the Events "Edit Page" page.

You might want to change the category to "Work in Progress" if you have several events to add at once. No one can see a "Work in Progress" page unless they are logged in to your web site. Change the category back to "Events" when you are ready for it to be viewed.

For now, feel free to accept the defaults on the other items on the Events "Edit Page" page.

Step Two: Add an Event

After you have an Events Page, you can add events to it.

Click on "Add an Event."

On the "Add an Event" Edit Page, you can add the date, location and description of the event.

To determine what order the events on your Events page will display, we recommend using a six number yymmdd format. For example:

  • 010101 for January 1, 2001
  • 011231 for December 31, 2001
  • 020907 for September 7, 2002

You can even add an image. Upload the image separately, using your red "Upload Image" button, then type in the name of the image. See Upload Images to Your Site for more information.

Before you upload any images, be sure to read "Preparing Images for the Web" about image sizes and naming conventions. See "Uploading Images" for help doing the actual upload.

You can also add a link to a Gallery Row. If you have taken some pictures which relate to the event and you would like to direct people to those particular pictures in your photo gallery, make sure that you mark the row of photos with a name you can remember, (see Add a Photo Gallery for more information) and then add that same name here in the box at the bottom of the page.

Click "Publish" when you are done.

If you want to add another event, click on "Add an Event" again and repeat the instructions above.

You can edit or delete a specific event using the blue "edit" or "delete" buttons.
