History of IDC

In 1948, Tony Joynt Sr. purchased the company from the McCormick Family and renamed it Illinois Distributing Company. The company was originally based in East St. Louis with branch operations in Belleville and Granite City. At that time, Illinois Distributing Company distributed two brands, Budweiser and Michelob.

In 1955, Busch Bavarian Beer was introduced and eventually led to explosive growth in the 1970's that required a larger warehouse be built. That growth and changing demographics prompted the building of a new facility in Belleville.

The new brands of Natural Light and Michelob Light were introduced in the late 70's with Bud Light being introduced in 1982. The Belleville facility was expanded in 1980 to add offices and warehouse space. It was expanded again in 1984 to add additional warehouse space and a larger draught cooler.

The industry was rapidly changing in the 1990's with new technologies, equipment and additional brands with multiple package combinations. All of these changes, in conjunction with volume growth over the years, necessitated the building of a new "state of the art" facility. This new facility was built with an eye to the future and the operation moved into it in October of 2001.

For over 50 years, Illinois Distributing Company has been selling and delivering Anheuser-Busch products to local retailers. Currently Illinois Distributing Company sells and distributes about 30 brands on a fleet of approximately 65 vehicles with around 100 full and part-time employees to over 700 retail accounts. The distribution territory comprises most of St. Clair County and the cities of Collinsville and Granite City in Madison County and parts of Monroe County.

The company is still in the Joynt family with Tony Joynt Jr. and Susan Joynt, Tony Joynt Sr. children, now owning the company.
