Our history
In the early 1900's, Hazard Cold Storage and Ice Company was established by Conway Ficklen. In those early years, ice was a necessity. Thus, the sale of beer was secondary and soon met its end upon Congress' passage of the National Prohibition Act in 1919. During those "dry" years brought on by the movement for the American Society to abstain from consumption of intoxicating beverages, the legalized sale of beer was prohibited. It was not until April 1933 that the "Beer Bill" was proposed for the purpose and intent of changing the definition of "intoxicating beverage" to allow for the manufacture and sale of beer at a low alcohol concentration. As the year 1933 drew to an end, so did the National Prohibition Act.
With regard to the sale of alcohol, Perry County, Kentucky was not voted as a "wet" district until 1948.
In that same year, Conway Ficklen sold Hazard Cold Storage and Ice Company to Mr. James Frederick Snyder. Mr. Snyder promoted the sale of beer and added the Budweiser brand to his inventory. With passing time, the demand for ice declined with the technological advancement towards refrigeration.
Meanwhile, the demand for beer was on the rise.
In 1953, Mr. Snyder sold his company to Mr. and Mrs. Farmer J. Eversoe, parents of Jeanne Eversole.
The company came to be known as Perry Distributors Inc. and became an Anheuser Busch Distributor on
March 9, 1953.
In 1959, Perry Distributors Inc. had two (2) employees, one being Mr. Don Fields who worked as a salesman. Don and Jeanne met, began a courtship, and were married in 1960. For 60 years, Don was devoted to the growth of Perry Distributors Inc. and its sale of Anheuser Busch products. He remained active in day to day operations until his passing in 2020. Don and Jeanne Fields had three (3) children, namely Don Fields Jr., William (Bill) Fields, and Danny Fields. Don Jr and Danny Fields are actively involved in Perry Distributors. William Fields has been an active employee since 1987, and continues to serve as the CEO and Equity Agreement Manager. In 2018, Kirsten Fields Stidham, the daughter of William, became the fourth generation to be employed at Perry Distributors as the Operations Manager.
Today, Perry Distributors operates in 4 warehouses, Perry, Allen and Ashland Kentucky and Ironton Ohio. We are insistent that to grow a great company, you need great employees. Perry Distributors boasts a number of long-term employees who have dedicated years of hard work to make this company great. We are grateful for the relentless hard work these employees have devoted.
